The Camera




Autofocus - A system that uses a sensor , a control system , & a motor to focus automatically at a selected point or area .

Image Sensor - A device that converts an optical image into an electronic signal .

Focal-plane Shutter - a type of photographic structure that is positioned immediately in front of the focal plane of the camera, that is, right in front of the photographic film or image sensor .

Leaf Shutter - a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time


Aperture - a hole or an opening through which light travels.
Shutter - a device that allows light to pass for a determined period of time.
Exposure - to express all combinations of cameras shutter speed & relative aperture that gives the same exposure .
Depth Of Field - is the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.
F-stop - of a visual system is the ratio of the lens focal length to the diameter of the entrance pupil .
Focal Length - where the camera aperture is described as a point and no lenses are used to focus light.


Hot Shoe - a mounting point on the top of a camera to attach a flash unit .

Mode Dial -a dial used on digital camera  to change the camera's mode.

On/Off Lever - To Turn The Camera On & Off .

Zoom Buttons - So you can zoom the camera in & out .

Four Way Control Pad Memory Indicator -you can use it when you view photos or to control things.

Playback Mode - To view the photo or photos you just took.

Menu- the main menu

LCD- the screen

Viewfinder- what you look through too see your shot.
